Introduction

This web page allows you to download a list of species recorded from Antarctic and sub-Antarctic localities which have records in the Antarctic Plant Database.

Search criteria

Instructions

Localities can be specified either as individual place names, or as broader areas such as part of the Antarctic continent, an island group or individual sub-Antarctic islands. The broader areas included are listed under the 'broad locality' field - just select the one you want. For other localities type in the relevant place name in the 'place name' field. Most searches will not need you to select both a broad locality and enter a place name.

Use the Plant group field to specify whether you want to restrict the list to an individual plant group or list everything. The default is everything.

Choose whether to include only specimens which have been determined to the species level, or to include incomplete and descriptive determinations, such as 'Cladonia sp' or 'black crustose lichen'. The default is specimens determined to the species level.

Use the records displayed field to alter the number of species returned on each page. This defaults to 50. Please be aware that a larger number will mean a longer wait before any records are returned.

To retrieve a species list matching your query click on the 'Get data' button.

To then see the specimen details for individual species, from the locality selected, click on the relevant list icon in the first column. NB - synonyms of the name selected will also be retrieved.

Some caveats

The resulting list may include taxa determined to a level below species.

Whilst an attempt is made to keep species names in the database as up to date as possible, inevitably not all synonyms are accounted for, so the list may include a few synonyms.

Make sure the place name you enter is unique, otherwise the list will include species from more than one locality. To ensure this you could repeat the place name query using the specimen query form, which will give you information on all the specimens collected from that locality, allowing you to check the locality data for each specimen.
